Orientation Success
NorthTec Orientation Days kicked
off the new education year in style on February 17 and 18 at
campuses around the Northland Region.
With official welcome ceremonies and powhiri held at many Northland campuses including Kaitaia, Rawene and Kerikeri, plus a two-day event at Whangarei’s Raumanga campus, the student orientation for 2014 is being hailed a success by organisers, staff and students alike.
More than 800 students were welcomed at Raumanga over the two days, with the time honoured tradition of powhiri, followed by a sumptuous morning tea, campus tours, entertainment and information stalls on site, completed with a free sausage sizzle courtesy of BNZ.
BNZ branches around the Northland region were on hand to supply, cook and serve the barbecues, which was received very well by students.
Student Success acting manager Jane Arlidge says she was thrilled at the success of the orientation days, not only at the locations around the region but with the bigger crowds at Raumanga too.
“It was fantastic, the weather held out for us on both days and the students were welcomed into the NorthTec whanau. The feedback from the regions has been very positive. At Raumanga, the students had a great time, enjoyed the giveaways and entertainment from the local radio stations The Edge and The Rock, and had a chance to meet with their new classmates on campus,” she says.
“We had bigger than expected numbers on the second day at Raumanga and I think the word had got out about the great day had on the first day. It really gives a sense of whanau, of coming together and we love doing this each year. Now the students have been given a motivational start to their education year, it is their time to grow with what they learn at NorthTec.”
