Laptops for Learning’ Programme Shrinks Digital Divide For Northland Schools
Low-decile Northland secondary schools will be presented with 75 digital devices next week, as part of Variety – The
Children’s Charity’s Laptops For Learning programme. This programme, in conjunction with The Warehouse, seeks to ensure
all Kiwi kids have equal access to information and communications technology.
Around 1,000 laptops and tablets will be donated through the programme, made possible from funds raised at the annual
The Warehouse Supplier Awards and Charity Dinner in November 2012.
Lorraine Taylor, said: “The Laptops For Learning programme makes an enormous difference to New Zealand families in need
by enhancing children’s chance of educational success through the use of technology.
By establishing a partnership with The Warehouse to deliver the programme, we will address the digital divide by
enabling access to learning and new technology, which is fundamental to the future development of our children and New
Zealand,” said Ms Taylor.
GM Community & Environment for The Warehouse, Paul Walsh said the business is proud to have partnered with Variety – the Children’s
Charity since 2001 and to be involved in the development of such an important learning programme.
“We sought to identify a need that was not being met elsewhere, and Laptops for Learning is a valuable contribution that
fits well with The Warehouse’s objectives of enhancing the lives of Kiwi families and children,” said Mr Walsh.
Over the last few years, The Warehouse has facilitated raising almost $2.8 million for Variety, which includes being the
recipient of fundraising from its 2009 and 2012 Suppliers’ Dinners.
