MIT partners with The Skills Organisation and CPIT to deliver nationwide business training
Manukau Institute of Technology (MIT) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with The Skills Organisation and
Christchurch Polytechnic Institute of Technology (CPIT) to deliver business education across 19 industries.
This partnership is the first of its kind to have a national focus around the delivery of comprehensive workplace
training for employees.
The MoU correlates with the New Zealand’s draft 2014-19 Tertiary Education Strategy (TES) identifying need for the
tertiary education system to support business and innovation through the development of relevant skills among the New
Zealand workforce.
The Skills Organisation is the largest Industry Training Organisation in New Zealand and will provide access to more
than 18,000 employees in 4,000 businesses.
MIT and CPIT are situated in regions of economic priority as specified in TES and the partnership is a deliberate
attempt to align the TES outcomes with those also sought in the Business Growth Agenda (BGA)MIT Chief Executive Dr Peter
Brothers says, “We are delighted to be partnering with Skills and CPIT.”

and teaming up with CPIT and Skills means our training can now reach more learners in more businesses in more industries
throughout New Zealand.,” he says

The Skills Organisation (Skills) Chief Executive Garry Fissenden says, “This is a great outcome for workplace
education.”

education providers to help more businesses develop their staff through high quality, on-the-job training,” he says.
CPIT Chief Executive Kay Giles says, “The partnership between CPIT, Skills and MIT will deliver sound benefits to New
Zealand workplaces.”
“The MoU builds on the existing strengths of CPIT, Skills and MIT. We’ll be working together to develop and deliver
training that enables more employees and businesses to succeed.”
A strategic and business plan for the sector partnership will be presented to the Establishment Board by April 30, 2014.
