Wellington Graduate Lands Two Plum Roles

Wellington Graduate Lands Two Plum Roles

2013 is ending on a high note for Wellingtonian Erin Banks, a Graduate Diploma in Event Management student with the Wellington Institute of Technology.

Erin not only event managed the premiere of Beyond the Edge, the feature documentary of Sir Edmund Hillary’s conquest of Mt Everest, she has been chosen to play a key acting role in a new television documentary-drama called War News where she will appear as the character, Ettie Rout. She will also be appearing in Broken River, opening next week as part of the BATS Theatre STAB season.

Erin has worked on an array of projects in 2013, many through her work with Verve - The Event Agency. This year has seen her working on theatre shows, charity events, exhibitions, festivals and driver fatigue pit-stops as part of State Driver Reviver. “Life is pretty exciting at the moment. I’ve almost completed my Graduate Diploma and I’ve got a bunch of great projects I’m working on. I’ve been very fortunate this year, and the Graduate Diploma has opened a lot of doors for me,” says Erin.

Erin has a BA in Theatre and English Literature from VUW and with her Event Management Graduate Diploma from WelTec she now has the complete skill set to “really expand my career horizons.”

“Working on the premiere of Beyond the Edge at the NZ Film Commission was a wonderful opportunity for me. It was a pleasure and a privilege to work with the filmmakers and the Hillary family on the premiere and I really appreciated the NZ Film Commission giving me the chance to work on such an important event,” says Erin.

“Students have to hone their newly acquired event management skills by putting them to the test on a real event,” says Joany Grima, Event Management Lecturer at WelTec. “How the student approaches the event, works with the client and obviously the end result are key to the student’s future in the event’s industry. With her wonderful new acting role and brand new qualification Erin will have so many more options available to her.”
