Phillipstown School back in the firing line
It is a huge disappointment and absolutely no surprise that the Education Minister is resuming her attempt to shut down Phillipstown School in Christchurch.
NZEI Te Riu Roa President Judith Nowotarski said it was just three weeks since the High Court ruled that the government’s proposed merger with Woolston School was unlawful due to inadequate consultation.
“It’s going to be very hard for this community to stomach another round of ‘consultation’ when we all know very well that it’s a done deal as far as the Minister is concerned,” she said.
“Why the extreme haste to shut this school down? It seems Hekia Parata is determined to close this school as soon as possible, despite the wishes of the community and the latest census showing population growth since the earthquake exodus.”
