112 Day Challenge: Free REACT presentations offered to secondary schools
The Peace Foundation is inviting secondary schools in Auckland and Northland to book a free REACT (Responding to Armed
Conflict) presentation about raising awareness in local communities on international armed conflicts.
REACT is meant to raise awareness about armed conflicts, emphasise nuclear abolition and disarmament and engage youth in
responding to armed conflicts. The 45-minutes REACT presentation contains two components, with the first part giving
plenty of information about armed conflicts in general including the causes and the consequences, previous and current
armed conflicts and the situation in New Zealand.
The second part shows youth how they can get active in responding to armed conflicts. The students get encouraged and
empowered to engage, for example, in their local community or in the social networks online. Throughout the presentation
the students are also invited to express their own opinions and express their ideas around such an important issue.
REACT is a project of The Peace Foundation whose concept was launched in 2010. Since then, it has been presented to 15
schools with an average reach of 240 students per school. The programme aligns well with the Social Studies New Zealand
Curriculum.
