Vanguard Military School Appoints Principal
One of the
first five Partnership Schools | Kura Hourua, Vanguard
Military School, is today proud to announce the appointment
of Rockley Montgomery as its Principal.
“Mr Montgomery’s experience, drive for excellence and desire to be the best was appealing and made the Vanguard Advisory Board’s decision to appoint him very easy,” says Vanguard Military School CEO Nick Hyde.
“Rockley Montgomery has over 20 years teaching experience, and has worked at New Zealand's largest secondary school, Rangitoto College, since 1997. He is a registered teacher and holds a BA in Education and Physical Education, and a post graduate qualification in Gifted and Talented Education.
“At Rangitoto College he developed and managed the Gifted and Talented Education programme, which has been recognised as one of the leading GATE programmes in the country.
“Rockley is also a keen fitness enthusiast and has won three world titles in multi-sports events, including the Coast to Coast title in 1992. As a keen rugby and athletics coach he has already indicated his desire to be involved in the coaching of Vanguard sports teams, particularly the 1st XV and cross country side.
“The Advisory Board and I are extremely pleased with the calibre of this appointment,” says Mr Hyde.
“By providing the students and staff of Vanguard with an exceptional leader, it signals our intentions to make this school a huge success.
“Rockley brings experience in management and curriculum design, and is a leader other staff can look up to, respect, and follow. He understands our military ethos and will drive and inspire the staff and students to achieve - not many schools can say their Principal has won the Coast to Coast challenge!
“I would like to thank Rangitoto College for allowing Rockley an early release to assist in the setup of Vanguard School,” says Mr Hyde.
Rockley Montgomery says he feels privileged to be appointed as Principal of Vanguard Military School.
“The ability to be involved in the development of a new school from the ground up - especially one incorporating an educational model that helps re-establish effective learning as a core component of education - is exciting.
Having the ability to remove so many barriers from the lives of our young learners and replace them with pride, confidence and a sense of belonging - that will allow them to move on into the community as a valued, well balanced member, is an extremely rewarding prospect.
Joining the Vanguard Military School team with its tried and tested educational model is something I can confidently commit one hundred per cent to and I look forward to the school’s opening in time for term one next year,” says Mr Montgomery.
