School resources remain in safe hands

The Ministry of Education expects contracts to be finalised this month for new suppliers for the work currently being done by Learning Media Ltd.

Deputy Secretary for Education, Andrew Hampton, says shortlisted suppliers for future work have been identified and negotiations with them are now underway.

“The high calibre of applicants and the commitment to the special character of publications, in particular the School Journal and Ready to Read series, means these resources will continue in safe hands.

“We’ve followed a robust procurement process to ensure all the things important to schools and children were included in the panel’s evaluation and decision making.”

Mr Hampton says the shortlisted suppliers are New Zealand-owned and operated companies with a proven track-record in education and are committed to taking on some Learning Media Ltd staff to retain expert knowledge.

“For the School Journal and Ready to Read series, the shortlisted supplier included mentoring writers and illustrators in their response, and encouraging emerging talent to ensure our unique New Zealand culture is maintained. In fact, suppliers intend to enter into exclusive contracts with some of our leading authors.

“The responses were high quality and all were strong proposals in their own right. We are confident the preferred suppliers will develop and improve the resources to ensure their continued relevance to the sector and children.”
