Top International Scholarship For Labour Candidate
Kate Sutton from Auckland has won the 2013 Cranfield New Zealand Alumni Scholarship to complete an MBA at Cranfield School of Management, one of Europe’s top business schools.  The full-time Cranfield MBA programme is ranked is ranked 1st for ‘the most satisfied MBAs’ and number 10 overall in Forbes Magazine’ ranking of all one-year programmes outside the US.
The scholarship is worth some $75,000, making it one of New Zealand’s most valuable academic prizes.  It is sponsored by Cranfield School of Management, and the NZ-UK Link Foundation.
Kate has an MA in Politics from the University of Auckland and for the last nine years has served on the University Council or board of directors. Kate has had an exciting and varied professional career and is currently working for the Pacific Cooperation Foundation as their Programme Development Manager. In this role Kate spends time in the Pacific working with small business owners, developing the quality of their products to help ready them for export.
Kate was a political candidate in 2008, was Operations Manager for the successful Len Brown for Mayor Campaign in 2010 and in the 2011 general election very nearly made it into parliament. She has a keen interest in planning, urban development, housing and housing policy and still has political aspirations; but for now is focused on her professional career.
Kate has previously worked with a variety of organisations including consulting for the Auckland Cancer Society where she was responsible for their developing their successful Smokefree Auckland campaign and she has worked in the corporate sector for Todd Property Group.
When she’s not at work Kate is the President of the YWCA Auckland which runs community programmes to deliver on their mission to Empower Women including the highly regarded future leaders mentoring programmes for girls 14 – 18 years old. Kate help
