Students celebrate the launch of latest intiative; a student led volunteer programme

Auckland University Students’ Association is celebrating the success of its new volunteer programme with a launch party
today. AUSA Delegates is a student-run volunteer network founded earlier this year by Cate Bell and Max Lin, 2013 AUSA
Vice-Presidents.
“The Delegates Programme is a student-run volunteer network established to both advance culture on campus and to help
the community,” says Bell, co-founder of AUSA Delegates.
“Even though we have just founded the AUSA Delegate Programme it has far exceeded our expectations,” says Lin,
co-founder of AUSA Delegates.
This year, the Delegates Programme allows delegates to apply their expertise over seven different teams; media, welfare,
representation, education, events, general and community.
Delegates have already raised thousands of dollars for student welfare and charities, including Hairshave - Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand. They helped paint QueerSpace, launched educational campaigns including DroppedmyDegree, and
analysed the student service levy. Delegates are also encouraged to use their own initiative and come up with their own
projects.
“Volunteers play a key role in adding to the diversity of campus. They help AUSA connect with a wider audience of
students and generate new ideas. The delegates have been instrumental in bridging the gap between student
representatives and students at the grassroots,” says Bell.
“I’ve always wanted to make the university a better place for students, and now I've been given that opportunity,” says
Sonny Taneja, a delegate who has actively promoted events on campus events.
“Students can be a powerful agent for good in the community. Knowing how to harness the untapped potential within
students has been a difficult, but rewarding challenge. I'm incredibly proud of what what have already accomplished this
year and look forward to what's yet to come", says Daniel Haines, AUSA President.
The launch will be attended by the Vice-Chancellor, AUSA life members and prominent community personalities.
