TV2 KidsFest 2013 builds on city's creativity

Ask anyone who’s ever been a Canterbury kid: one of the highlights of the events calendar is TV2 KidsFest, running this year from Saturday 13 – Saturday 27 July.

Christchurch City Council Marketing Unit Manager Richard Stokes says the long-running festival has become a fixture of the Christchurch winter, entertaining children and their parents for 22 years now.

“Children who attended the first TV2 KidsFest have now come of age, and look forward all year to the chance to bring their own little nippers to the festival of which they have so many fond memories.”

This year’s TV2 KidsFest theme is Reuse, Recycle, Renew, which Mr Stokes says is very appropriate.

“Christchurch still has its appetite for events, and we’re using TV2 KidsFest to draw families back into the city – starting with our Open Streets event – and building on the creativity that’s blossomed in the city post-quakes. In that spirit, we’re educating kids about reusing, recycling and renewing, with events including the Creative Junk Workshop, Wearable Art and Fashion Parade, Transformer Junk Tales and the Kids’ Market.”

Free public events include:

Open Streets
