New Secretary for Education
The new Secretary for Education, Peter Hughes, says it is a privilege to be appointed to a role focussed on making a real difference for young New Zealanders.
Mr Hughes has been the Acting Secretary since early February.
“I applied for the permanent role because education is at the heart of helping children and young people be the very best they can be.
“I’ve spent many years working on the social side of government with individuals and families who were vulnerable and marginalised.
“Education holds the key to getting in early and transforming young lives, and that’s what makes this job such a privilege and opportunity.
“The Ministry is full of professional and committed people who are passionate about making a difference in the lives of New Zealanders through education. I’m thrilled to be part of that.”
Mr Hughes says he has enjoyed working with a wide range of people throughout the education sector over the past four months and will continue building strong relationships.
