TPP’s Annual Report Highlights Successful Year
2012 was a very successful year for Tai Poutini Polytechnic with improved educational performance in a number of areas
and a positive financial result.
TPP has released its annual report which shows 83% of West Coast students moved onto further study or work after
graduating in 2012. The Polytechnics’ qualification completion rate also increased from 57% in 2011 to 70% in 2012
compared to a sector average of 64%.
TPP Chair Graeme McNally says a key initiative for TPP in 2012 was to strengthen the relationship with the Tertiary
Education Commission (TEC) which has seen funding for 2013 increase by $1.8m in the priority areas of trades,
engineering and youth guarantees.
“This is a very creditable outcome in a period of tight constraints on additional funding. We have achieved it by
ensuring TPP’s programmes, and their delivery, are relevant both to the West Coast and, more broadly, to Government
priorities for tertiary education and training,” he says.
The annual report shows TPP achieved its targeted revenues of $24m in the financial year. Also pleasing is a student
satisfaction survey found 98% of students surveyed were satisfied with their time at TPP with 90% very or highly
satisfied.
TPP CEO Allan Sargison says the polytechnic has had a successful year with improved key performance indicators in many
areas including course and qualification completion rates.
“TPP has been through a period of change and is now on a solid footing. For the first time in years we have achieved
growth in the scope, size and delivery of programmes and also improved the level of educational performance. TPP will
continue to focus on the further development of both programme delivery and capital infrastructure,” he says.
After recent visits from representatives of the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) TPP is now looking forward
to receiving NZQA’s External Evaluation and Review (EER) report.
