New initiative set to surge at Kumeu

New initiative set to surge at Kumeu

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 15/05/13

Over 500 students from the greater Auckland region will be heading to Kumeu Showgrounds this Friday to find out what they can do to make a difference in the world. As the world’s population grows so too does the requirement for food production and innovation in the agri-sector.

The ‘Food and You Careers Experience Day’ is an action packed, informative day where students will learn about the range of careers in the agricultural industry and get an in depth look at food value and supply chain stories.

At ‘Food and You’, students will gain an awareness of the numerous career opportunities in the primary sector through hands on interactive sessions from industry leading organisations such as Fonterra, DairyNZ, Beef + Lamb NZ, FarmIQ, and AgResearch. “The details for the process of food getting from the pasture to the plate are often overlooked”, commented Richard Fitzgerald, NZYF CEO, “as a result, the array of career options involved within the agriculture industry also often go unnoticed”, Mr Fitzgerald explained.

Throughout the day students will hear from a number of inspirational career speakers and meet with educators from Massey University, Lincoln University and Taratahi Training Centre. Some of the topics include animal production, engineering, horticulture, machinery and food science.

“It is vital to support the youth of today in order to develop the agriculture industry of tomorrow”, said Mr Fitzgerald.
