Fourteen Whanganui UCOL students representing nine different programmes received scholarships at a ceremony at the Rutland Street campus today.
The successful scholars are studying across a wide range of Certificate and Degree programmes in everything from Fashion
to Fine Arts and Beauty to Business.
Chairman of the UCOL Council Trevor Goodwin hosted the ceremony. While congratulating the recipients, he thanked the
Trust Boards and businesses for their on-going support of the scholarships and showing tangible commitment to some of
UCOL’s most promising students.
Wanganui Education Trust scholarships were presented to Sinead Pugh (Bachelor of Computer Graphic Design), Tairongo Hauwaho (Certificate in Contemporary Music Performance) and Tracey Ihaia (Bachelor of Nursing).
Bachelor of Fashion student Georgina Steven and Chris Van Klink Bachelor of Computer Graphic Design were each awarded an
H & A Design and Print scholarship.
Five students were each awarded an Arthur Wheeler Leedstown Trust scholarship. The successful students were Aroha Te
Huia (Certificate in Mental Health), Alison Biggs (Bachelor of Nursing), Virginia Larsen (Certificate in Beauty
Services), Teri-Wai Eruera
(National Certificate in Business) and Aleisha Ward (Certificate in Hairdressing).
Michelle Bettridge (Bachelor of Fine Arts) received the Bryan Smyth Memorial Trust scholarship and Bachelor of Fine Arts
student David Terrey accepted the Kate Gray Memorial Trust scholarship.
Bachelor of Fashion student Zoe Frew was awarded a Phil-Wright Fabrics scholarship, and Bachelor of Nursing student
Sharon Basham picked up a Gina Forrest Memorial scholarship.
UCOL Deputy Chief Executive Academic Bonnie Dewart says she is grateful UCOL is able to connect with organisations and
individuals to offer students scholarships and awards. “I would like to extend a thank you to each donor. These students
no doubt have aspirations to contribute to their communities so it is great for them to have this support during their
studies.”
