Government package finally acknowledges extent of Novopay debacle

NZEI Te Riu Roa says the interim support package for schools suffering from the Novopay debacle signals that the Government acknowledges the extent of the problems schools are facing.

National Secretary Paul Goulter says NZEI has been asking for a package for schools for a long time and he’s pleased that the Government has finally responded.

“This reflects the vast range of problems different schools have faced and will continue to face.

“Schools are best placed to make a decision on whether the interim package is enough and we hope the Government will be ready to provide additional support when an individual school can show the amount is inadequate.

“It is good news that the Government has finally set in place a timeframe with targeted milestones to address the systemic problems with Novopay.

“The Government will have to decide whether it sticks to Novopay or falls back on the previous payroll supplier Datacom to provide an alternative.

“Given the number of serious systemic problems, it is likely the Minister for Novopay, Steven Joyce will be hard pressed to meet his own end of June deadline to remediate the huge number of problems within the system.”
