Novopay support package needs to address workload issues
The Government’s proposed Novopay support package to schools will be a first step in the right direction in compensating them for the ongoing debacle.
NZEI Te Riu Roa National Secretary Paul Goulter says the union will be looking closely at the package to ensure that schools are adequately and fairly funded for the extra work the payroll mess has created.
”We have been calling for relief for schools for months now and we certainly hope the support package will be adequate to acknowledge the extra work that Novopay has created. If the Novopay debacle continues, the Government will need to come up with further funding to help schools cope with additional stress and workload issues.
“There is very little confidence amongst teachers and school support staff that Novopay will be able to deliver but it is for the Government and its advisers to decide whether to stick with the system or replace it.
“Our concern is to ensure that teachers are paid properly and that schools caught up in the system receive adequate funding to help alleviate the stress and extra workload Novopay has created.”
