Interior Design Is Now Available At UCOL’s Whanganui Campus.
For the first time,
Whanganui people with an interest in
interior design can study for a professional qualification
locally.
UCOL is offering the Diploma in Interior
Design Level 5 at Whanganui UCOL, with the first course
due to start on 8 April. The Diploma in Interior
Design programme covers all aspects of residential
interior design, including: colour, the history of interior
design, furnishings, drafting, CAD, design theory,
ergonomics, kitchen and bathroom design, building
technology, materials, finishes and lighting.
Students
will also learn about what’s involved in a professional
design practice. Graduates may find work as self-employed
design consultants, as consultants in retail outlets or as a
consultant for architects, spec-house builders and kitchen
designers.
The Head of UCOL’s School of Photography, Arts and Design, Rachel Hoskin, says: “For this first programme at Whanganui UCOL, we will spreading the programme over two years, with class times that fit in with people who may be working but want to gain an Interior Design qualification.
“Interested people should sign up as soon
as they can. After two years, we’ll review the programme
and the demand for it in Whanganui. ” she says.
Rachel
expects strong interest in the programme. “This is a
region with a lot of civic and home-making pride, fine
buildings and a strong interest in design. This is an
opportunity for Whanganui people to turn that interest
into a career.”
She says the programme should appeal to
school leavers with a flair for design, people who run their
own business or who want to run their own business, and
people employed in the industry. Others may do the programme
out of personal interest.
Enrolments are now open for the Diploma in Interior Design programme. Go to www.ucol.ac.nz or phone 0800 GOUCOL for more information.
