Gordon Chesterman Scholarship Recipient Announced

Aspiring entrepreneur and Bachelor of Media Arts student, Hayley Simmonds, has been awarded Wintec’s Gordon Chesterman Scholarship.

The scholarship, worth $5000 per year for a maximum of three years, was offered for the first time this year in recognition of the significant contribution made by former Wintec chair, Gordon Chesterman.

Hayley, 21, was chosen ahead of 31 scholarships applicants for her leadership qualities at Wintec and within the community. She is in her second year of Wintec’s Bachelor of Media Arts (Visual Arts).

Gordon Chesterman says: “Hayley’s passion for the industry, coupled with her proactive involvement in the Waikato, is impressive.

“While studying she ran her own graphic design business completing several contract projects – a notable achievement for someone so young. She is a skilled graphic designer and an aspiring entrepreneur with a successful future ahead of her.”

Hayley says she feels honoured to receive the scholarship.
“I am passionate about what I study and would one day love to work for a not-for-profit organisation.”

“I would like to thank Wintec for providing me with this opportunity, and for contributing a substantial amount towards my fees. Knowing your student loan will be significantly reduced by the time you finish studying is an incredible feeling.

The scholarship will be presented to Hayley by Gordon Chesterman at the School of Media Arts Special Awards event on Tuesday 19 March during Wintec’s graduation week.

Gordon Chesterman was Chair of the Wintec Council for more than 10 years, and is currently Hamilton’s Deputy Mayor. He is a strong advocate for Wintec’s School of Media Arts as well as to the business and arts community.
