Sport and Recreation Diploma (Level 6) Students Pilot New Ipad Programme
NorthTec‘s Diploma in Sport and Recreation (Level 6) have gone high-tech in a pilot Programme which will see them using
the latest version Ipads as a learning tool.
“We’re trialling them in the first semester to see if they are a viable option and whether our IT systems can support
them,” Sport and Recreation Programme leader Dan Clark says.
“We want to see if our Level 6 students can use them effectively as part of their skill acquisition and Advanced Sports
Performance papers.
“It will allow them to study human movement analysis which is a core part of the coaching component for the course where
they either coach a sports team or are attached to a team.”
The Ipads will be loaned to the students for the year, much the same way as library books are lent out.
Dan says another key reason for using the Ipads was to get the students to strive for a paperless system.
“Their assignments will be adjusted so they are doing virtually everything online on their Ipads rather than putting
things down on paper. We want them to be comfortable and proficient in using these devices,” he says.
The results of the pilot Programme will be presented at the Sport and Recreation symposium to be hosted by the Bay of
Plenty Polytech in June.
NorthTec is the Tai Tokerau (Northland) region's largest provider of tertiary education, with campuses and learning
centres in Whangarei, Kerikeri, Rāwene, Kaikohe and Kaitaia. NorthTec also has over 60 community-based delivery points
from Coatesville in rural Rodney to Ngataki in the Far North.
