Orion Health Scholarships to Fast Track Information Science Innovation
$100,000 investment to provide five
scholarships encourages students to
pursue careers in
Information Science to lead innovation in New
Zealand
Auckland, New Zealand, February 22, 2013 Orion
Health, a leading global
health software organisation,
today announced the Orion Health Scholarship
in
partnership with the University of Canterbury. Orion Health
is a major
employer of information science graduates, and
the new Scholarship enables
students to fast-track their
degree through the participation in work
integrated
learning.
The Scholarship will be offering a minimum of
five undergraduate students
from the University of
Canterbury, where Orion Health is committed to
investing
in the city’s rebuild. The Scholarship will include
financial
assistance to cover course fees as well as a
ten-week summer internship at
Orion Health during the
course of the program, providing valuable
workplace
experience.

University of
Canterbury’s Vice-Chancellor Dr. Rod Carr says the

Details of the Scholarships include:
•
$7,000 internship at Orion Health plus course fees provided
to
selected students
• Five students, with scholarship tenable for two years
• Open to
full-time BSc students majoring in Computer Science at
the
University of Canterbury enrolled in all of the
following courses in 2013:
COSC121 (S1), INFO125,
COSC122, MATH120 and STAT101
• Recipients must
pass the specified courses to retain this
scholarship.
These include two summer work integrated learning
courses
through an internship at Orion Health
• Applicants must be eligible for employment in New Zealand
• The scholarships will be awarded by
Orion Health and the Department
of Computer Science and
Software Engineering, University of Canterbury, on
the
recommendation of a Selection Committee comprising
• Two representatives of Orion Health;
o Head of
Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering
or
nominee and;
o An academic member of staff of the
Department of Computer Science and
Software
Engineering
• In making its recommendation the
Committee will take into account
factors including, but
not limited to, academic merit (NCEA results in
relevant
courses, and grades in courses) as well as additional
supporting
factors, such as work experience,
leadership/teamwork evidence and
community/volunteer
work
For those students who are interested in applying for
an Orion Health
Scholarship, applications must be made on
the appropriate form, obtainable
from the from the
University of Canterbury Scholarships website, and must
be
forwarded to the Head of Department, Department of
Computer Science and
Software Engineering, University of
Canterbury, not later than March 31,
2013.
