Wintec Re-Opens Exhibition Space
Wintec’s exhibition gallery, RAMP, will re-open in Hamilton on Friday 22 February.
The gallery has been closed while renovations take place in its School of Media Arts facility on Collingwood Street.
First opened in 1997, RAMP will now boast a new glass façade, making it more noticeable to the public.
School of Media Arts Head of School, Margi Moore says: “RAMP connects our media arts students to a professional gallery
experience and exposes them to a wide range of contemporary art.
“It is a space for students, the Hamilton public and visitors to the region to experience the work of artists and
designers from New Zealand and around the world.”
Public Good is the first exhibition on the refurbished gallery’s calendar. It includes photography, sculpture and design from New
Zealand and overseas artists. Public Good explores the planning, design and governance of public spaces and how we engage with these socially and logistically.
Photography documenting changes to Christchurch city in the wake of the recent earthquakes features, as well as the
development of Hamilton’s iconic shopping centre, The Base.
Curated by Ramp Gallery Curator and Wintec media arts tutor, Kim Paton, the exhibition features new work by Tim
Middleton (NZ), Charlotte Watson (Aus), Tim Veling (NZ), Gareth Williams (NZ), Matthew Galloway (NZ), David Cook (NZ),
Raewyn Martyn (USA) and Stuart Stepherd (NZ).
Public Good is an ongoing project with a series of exhibitions and publications scheduled for the next 18 months. It is on display
at RAMP until 22 March. Two projects from the exhibition will also be showcased at Waikato Museum from 22 February until
17 May.
The RAMP exhibition is free and open to the public. Opening hours are Monday to Friday, from midday until 4.00pm.
The School of Media Arts facility is being refurbished as part of Wintec’s on-going campus modernisation programme.
Recent developments to Wintec’s city campus include the construction of its marae, Te Kōpū Mānia o Kirikiriroa, and the
refurbishment of heritage building Wintec House.
Wintec is hosting an opening event on Friday 22 February, 5pm at RAMP gallery, Wintec City Campus, Hamilton (entrance
via Collingwood Street, opposite Chow:Hill Architects). Media are welcome. Please advise Hannah White if you would like
