The Little House That UCOL Built Is On The
Move
UCOL Wairarapa’s ‘fantastic little house’ is on the move today.
UCOL Construction Programme Coordinator Brett Tickner says Brittons house movers will jack up the two bedroom house this afternoon and load it on their truck.
It will then be moved in the wee hours of tomorrow morning (estimate 4.00 am) to its new location on Walnut Lane in Carterton.
Mega Mitre 10, other sponsors and volunteers are completing the landscaping work and it will then be auctioned off with proceeds going to Life Flight and the Asthma Foundation.
Supervised by Carpentry Lecturer Peter VanderVeen, 11 UCOL Certificate in Carpentry Level 4 learners have constructed the two bedroom house in their new purpose-built covered facility over the past 4 months.
“This project has been a fantastic venture for UCOL, the Carpentry students who worked on the house, the generous sponsors and the Dugdale Charitable Trust,” says Brett. “It has ticked all the boxes for all involved.”
Brett says this year’s Carpentry students will build a three bedroom house with ensuite using a very similar design. “We are in partnership with the same trust and with many of the same suppliers, businesses and sponsors.”
“We are looking forward to another great building project this year that will benefit the community and our students.”
