Glamour and nails
UCOL has got the thumbs up to offer one of only a handful of full time nail technician programmes in the country.
The National Certificate in Beauty Services (Nail Technology) has been introduced as a stand-alone qualification. For the past two years it was imbedded in UCOL’s Beauty Services programme but a change of unit standards has given nail artistry a green light for a fully dedicated course.
The programme includes manicures, pedicures, acrylic and gel nail application, nail sculpture, 3D nail art, the use of
equipment, products and safe operating procedures.
The 27 week programme is taught at UCOL’s own beauty clinic over three days which includes one evening per week.
The clinic is custom designed and fitted to meet industry requirements and international training standards.
As a fully functioning clinic, the students have a professional environment to offer a complete range of nail services
to UCOL staff, students and the public during their training.
Associate Head of School of Hospitality and Continuing Education Margot Ferrick says, “There is a heavy emphasis on customer service and hands on experience. When they leave us, our graduates are
fully qualified and job ready.”
“We are very excited to be national leaders in this qualification,” says Margot.
UCOL’s Level 3 Nail Technician qualification can lead to the Certificate in Beauty Services Level 4 and the Diploma in Beauty Therapy Level 5.
