CPIT Open Day reveals changing institute
CPIT is changing in response to the needs of Christchurch.
To find out about the latest developments at CPIT, visit the CPIT Open Day at the Madras Street campus on 26 January.
CPIT is working with industry partners, earthquake recovery organisations, government agencies and CPIT’s communities and has become more flexible and quick to respond to the development needs of the region as they arise. Last year, for example, CPIT expanded its trades training capacity and foundation programmes for youth and created the Skills for Canterbury unit to match industry training needs with practical solutions.
“The last few years have been challenging, but we have learned a lot and emerged better able to deliver to the city and region’s needs. We have developed greater ability to adapt to the new environment and keep adapting as the situation changes, however the achievements of our students and work readiness of our graduates remain at the heart of all new developments at the institute,” CPIT Chief Executive Kay Giles said.
Christchurch needs tradespeople, but the city still needs nurses, ICT specialists, hospitality professionals and other skilled workers across a range of study areas at CPIT. Talk to the institute’s tutors and current students about specific programmes at CPIT’s Open Day and find out how you can be part of the rebuild and recovery of Christchurch.
CPIT’s Open Day offers hands-on activities from pasta-making to driving InfraTrain’s mini digger simulator and there’s a Lotus 7 sportscar replica for engineering enthusiasts.
Entertainment is provided by top Christchurch buskers - the line-up includes the wild wedding of CircoArts graduates Mim and Danny at 11.15am, Nigel Blackstorm at 12.15pm and Becky Hoops at 1.15pm. For children, there’s pony rides and face painting.
CPIT’s Open Day is on Saturday 26 January from 11am to 2pm at the Madras Street city campus with tours to the Trades Innovation Institute, Ensors Road, Woolston. See www.cpit.ac.nz or phone 0800 24 24 76 for more information.
