Joyce must fix Novopay disaster without delay
NZEI Te Riu Roa welcomes the announcement that Senior Cabinet Minister Steven Joyce is to be given responsibility for fixing Novopay, but says that parents and schools expect the pay system to be working properly as soon as possible.
“The use of the Constitution Act to transfer responsibility for the Novopay shambles from one minister to another shows that finally the Government is taking the problem seriously,” said Laures Park, Acting National Secretary of NZEI.
“And so they should – pay mess-ups have turned the new pay system into a household name for all the wrong reasons.”
“The same sense of urgency needs to be applied to making sure that school staff are paid the right amount at the right time from now on,” said Ms Park.
“Parents are readying their children for a new school year. They need to know that principals and staff are able to give all their attention to providing a quality education for their children and not in trying to fix up more Novopay mistakes.”
“We are looking to Mr Joyce to deliver an effective pay system as soon as possible.’’
