Today’s final combined graduation for Whitireia, for 2012 will see around 800 students graduating in what promises to be a memorable event for all involved.
Two graduation ceremonies will take place today at Te Rauparaha Arena. Students from the Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Health and Te Wananga Māori will graduate at 11am followed by students from the Faculties of Business, Service Industries and Trades at 3pm.
Guests at today’s ceremonies will be entertained by Whitireia Music students Sonny Miti and Nofoala Lameko, while Olivia Giles, Whitireia graduate; artist and writer will address attendees at the 11am ceremony and Tim Sheppard, Chair Whitireia Foundation and Porirua City Councillor, at the 3pm ceremony.
“Today we celebrate and honour the achievements of students graduating” said Don Campbell, Chief Executive, Whitireia. “We are proud of every student; we seek to provide them all with a solid foundation on which to build their careers in the professions and industries they have chosen”.
Hone Kingi is graduating today with a Diploma in Outdoor Adventure. He has had a great year at Whitireia this year and has shown tremendous growth in his chosen area of study and profession. He is now fully equipped with the skills required to enter the outdoor adventure industry with confidence - the outdoor adventure industry is waiting for Hone to now become an active part of it –of which he is, with a number of job opportunities in front of him.
In another profession, Certificate in Commercial Broadcasting graduand Shaun Arnst is graduating today after completing six months of study at Whitireia. Shaun has a strong passion for Sports Broadcasting and thanks to his attitude towards his study and learning and ultimately his success; he has managed to secure himself a job in the industry he is passionate about.
Graduation ceremonies are a highlight of
the Whitireia academic calendar. They are a celebration of
student success and are a hugely satisfying occasion for all
involved. Today’s celebrations will see close to 3000
students and invited guests taking part in this grand finale
for Whitireia for 2012 – a fitting end to another great
and successful year.
