Secondary teachers’ collective agreement ratified – PPTA
PPTA members have voted to ratify a new secondary teachers’ collective agreement (STCA).
The settlement includes the protection of all current provisions and an average pay increase of 2.66% over
two-and-a-half years, PPTA president Robin Duff said.
“Despite attempts by the ministry of education to make 42 cuts in teaching and learning conditions – members will
receive a pay increase without any reductions to the current agreement.
While members were disappointed the ministry refused to address issues around burgeoning class sizes, inequalities for
part-time teachers and improved professional, learning and development (PLD) conditions, the settlement of the STCA did
free up the association to pursue those issues through other avenues, Duff said.
“PPTA will now be able to focus its energies on fighting the government’s agenda of undermining the New Zealand’s public
education system.
“We will campaign actively against the imposition of charter schools and the constant reductions created by quarterly
funding and demand accountability for the Novopay and Christchurch Renewal Plan debacles,” he said.
