Central Otago student benefits from SBS Bank Rural scholarship.
SBS Bank Rural is pleased to announce, Central Otago horticulture student Jo Kys has been named the recipient of its
$1,000 horticulture scholarship.
The scholarship forms part of a three-year collaboration between SBS Bank Rural and Otago Polytechnic’s Central Otago
Horticulture campus.
SBS Bank Rural Senior Agribusiness Manager Anne Ashby-Neilson said the scholarship fitted perfectly with the principles
of the business.
“The scholarship and its prize money are great way to support those who are committed to learning, as these students
will potentially become the future industry leaders. At SBS Bank Rural we’re committed to supporting and helping these
students with their studies. We don’t just talk about it; we like to put that commitment into action through our
numerous sponsorships and scholarships.
“Jo is an extremely deserving recipient of our scholarship. She has a history of working in positions where she has been
able to make an impact and I have no doubt those skills will be a huge benefit to the horticulture industry. She has
demonstrated her commitment to the industry by balancing full-time study whilst raising three young children at the same
time.”
Ms Kys said receiving the scholarship from SBS Bank Rural had been a great way to finish off an extremely busy year.
“Full-time study was a bit of a juggling act but I really enjoyed the challenge. The mix of theory and practical, along
with a fantastic group of fellow students, made for a full-on and thoroughly enjoyable year. I was thrilled to be the
recipient of the scholarship and think it’s great that Anne and the team at SBS Bank Rural saw it fit to reward
horticultural students with this very generous gesture of support. It really does mean a lot.”
