UCOL confirms programmes
There is some good news for UCOL staff and future students as four popular programmes will now be offered next year after they were proposed for closure in order to meet reduced funding levels.
The programmes are the Certificate in Fashion and Beauty level 1, the Certificate in Tertiary Study Skills level 1, and the Certificate in Motorsport level 2 in Palmerston North, and in Whanganui the Certificate in Hairdressing (Salon Support) level 3.
UCOL Chief Executive Paul McElroy said changes to the proposals had been made as a result of the consultation process, appeals received from staff, feedback received from others and last minute negotiations with the Tertiary Education Commission.
The above decisions save 8 full time jobs. There are 32 full time equivalent staff positions at UCOL that will go through surplus staff processes.
Mr McElroy acknowledged that it has been an incredibly tough process. “The professional behaviour of UCOL staff and their support for each other helps us to get through tough times like these.”
“We are focusing on supporting our current students in their end of year studies, and are looking forward to a busy enrolment season in 2013.”
