UCOL confirms 2013
The vast majority of programmes will be offered at Whanganui UCOL next year, including the Certificate in Hairdressing (Salon Support).
UCOL Chief Executive Paul McElroy confirmed the normal range of programmes will be offered in 2013, with the exception of the National Certificate in Business Administration level 4, and the Certificate in Hairdressing (ITO) level 4. Years two, three and four of the Bachelor of Fine Arts will still run, as will years two and three of the Diploma in Glass Design and Production. However year one intakes into the Fine Arts and Glass programmes will be paused while more sustainable options are explored as part of preparing an Education Plan.
“We are looking forward to working with the District Council on approaches and models that look at how to provide sustainable tertiary education in Whanganui. The Taskforce will look specifically at the provision of fine arts and glass education in Whanganui in a way which supports Whanganui’s strength as a community with a strong art and glass focus.”
Mr McElroy said the decisions reflect consideration of feedback from staff, the Wanganui District Council, members of the public and last minute negotiations with the Tertiary Education Commission. “We appreciate all the support we have received during these difficult times.”
UCOL has managed to achieve savings in some operating costs which have helped to offset the impact on programmes and staff.
