Australian-born writer becomes talented Auckland director

Jacinta Scadden is now in her final year at Unitec, studying a Bachelor of Performing and Screen Arts.

Born in Australia, Jacinta came to New Zealand and decided to study at Unitec in 2010.

Following her interest in writing, Jacinta is taking a step in the right direction with her playwright, screenwriter and director career focus.

Earlier this year she directed Mab's Room, a play which was showcased at Auckland's Basement Theatre from the 4th to the 8th of September.

Jacinta realised she had a passion for theatre directing from a young age, when she entered one of her works into the Simpson Prize in 2008 and walked away with first prize, having been given the chance to enter through Nathalia Secondary School in Victoria, Australia.

The Performing and Screen Arts programme at Unitec offers an exciting and increasingly popular career avenue. It's a growing industry and each year the Department of Performing and Screen Arts releases more and more New Zealand talent into the world.

The programme gives students the opportunity to go further with their careers, whether building them locally or taking their skills and expertise abroad.
