Christmas pay assurance for school staff

Media release

14 November 2012

Christmas pay assurance for school staff

The Ministry of Education is assuring staff in schools that work is underway to make sure they receive their Christmas pay on time.

Group Manager, Rebecca Elvy, says the Ministry is working with the company providing the Novopay payroll system to ensure the Christmas pay process goes smoothly.

“I can assure school staff that both the Ministry and Talent2 are fully committed to getting the payments right and in bank accounts on time.

“We realise it is a very important time of year for people and know their holiday plans are dependent on receiving their pay.”

Ms Elvy says school administrators are working hard to ensure their end of year reports for Christmas payments are in by Wednesday, November 21.

“The majority of school staff will continue to be paid as usual, but this particular process impacts a group of about ten thousand teachers who are fixed term or long-term relievers, and most support staff. It also impacts on any staff who are going to work in a new school next year.”

Ms Elvy says there will still be some time before payments are made to resolve outstanding issues from the cut-off date of November 21.

“We know school payroll staff have already put a great deal of work in with Novopay and we’re pleased some schools have already sent their reports in.

“I’d encourage any payroll administrator who might have questions or need a bit more assistance to get in touch with Novopay staff as soon as possible. We know they want to do everything they can to help us get this right for staff.’’
