NCEA Study App Feeds Mouths and Minds
Secondary school students around the country are about to kick into study mode, and many lucky Kiwi students will have a new tool in their study arsenal, their mobile phones. NCEA Eagle a Dunedin education company armed only with a computer programmer and years of NCEA and tutoring knowledge has teamed up with KidsCan to make a study tool available to all New Zealand school pupils. Teachers around the country are already thankful for this new technology and are collaborating to improve it.
"We've developed the best revision aid in the country and it's packed with the right questions and how to answer them." said Rakesh Pandey, NCEA Eagle CEO, "We're backing up the study they're doing with top questions and tracking tools so they know where their study is at, and we're using the technology they know, mobiles and PC's so they can study anywhere."
After working with students who have struggled with study for over 30 years Mr. Pandey combined his knowledge of study techniques with feedback he had from teachers about where students were going wrong in exams to develop NCEA Eagle. “NCEA papers are now being graded according to how in-depth the answers are. Students often know the knowledge but are unable to identify the correct terminology or make small errors in their explanations. These errors or omissions decrease their grades from Excellence to Merit or even Not Achieved.” Mr. Pandey emphasises.
By accessing this application, students are able to practice identifying what the examiners want in the answer. Teachers just do not have the time to individually check the answers of each student and correct the small errors or omissions. Furthermore, students need to learn what to include in an answer so they can achieve higher grades. Since students can practice doing questions anywhere, anytime, this app is an ideal solution to the problem.
But it's not just secondary students the Eagle is taking under its wing, the team have partnered with KidsCan and are donating $5 from each app and every product sold on their website until the end of the 2012 exam period and giving their apps away free to low decile school linked with KidsCan.
"We're all about making sure Kiwi kids are not only getting food for their mind but that those in need are getting food for the body as well." said Mr. Pandey, "Studying requires a well-rounded approach and eating well is part of that, so we're proud we can give something back to KidsCan as they help so many youngsters get the energy they need to focus.“
So what is the most important focus students should have with exams looming? Rakesh Pandey believes “It could be just one word in an answer that determines Merit or Excellence grades or getting into University or not. Students need to eat healthy food, and sleep well to have the energy to study, and then do whatever they have to do to make sure that they can give examiners the answers they want.”
Their constantly updated Fast track NCEA revision tools are designed to track student progress, help students perfect Merit and Excellence questions and include 150 of the most likely questions students will face in this year's NCEA exams. They are available from their webstore on www.nceaeagle.co.nz
