Catwalk Beckons For Bright Young Things
Pumpkins, gladiators and landscapes are among the inspirations for this year’s Whanganui UCOL’s School of Fashion Parade and Show next week.
An intriguing and varied range of collections will grace the catwalk during Bright Young Things, the annual show featuring work by all of the fashion students.
Aimee Maulder’s collection Pumpkinesque celebrates the undiscovered and true beauty of pumpkins. “Their unique colouring and texture has been my entire inspiration,” she says. “I have used classic pieces and put a unique twist from the pumpkin to create an innovative and creatively fun collection.”
Aimee is one of 15 graduating Bachelor of Fashion students who will
each show a five piece collection reflecting their
individual creative exploration and vision.
Graduate Diploma in Fashion student Li
Tang will present a 3 piece collection called The South
of Iridescent Clouds. “It portrays the beautiful
landscape and our endearment to the land of YunNan province
in China,” says Li.
Head of School of Fashion Amanda Rayner says, “These final collections are a culmination of many months, in some cases years, of hard work and dedication.”
Certificate of Fashion students will
present their interpretation of the theme
Street.
Year One Bachelor of Fashion students will
present their take on The Dress; and Cult
Couture, Manawatu Knitting Mills and Whose
Life is it Anyway? will showcase the work of the Year
Two students.
The popular annual event is well received
by the community and is a highlight of Whanganui UCOL’s
three week long arts celebration Artrageous.
Bright
Young Things will be held in the Jubilee Stadium on
Friday 16 November. Amanda expects a lively audience in the
large venue. “It is a wonderfully supportive environment
for the students to publicly reveal their creative
talent.”
