Students Vote for Unitec Lecturer of the Year
This week Graeme Saxby of the Department of Osteopathy was officially named the Unitec Students' top lecturer for 2012 in the Unitec Lecturer of the Year poll, which is administered by USU Students' Association at Unitec.
Student magazine Script's Editor Jayne King met with Graeme Saxby to see what makes him so likeable with the students.
Saxby explains that he likes to "break down information into bite size chunks.and reframe information in a light way."
Graeme continues to add "I think feedback is the lifeblood of what we do and there has to be an open and honest relationship". Students are appreciated for challenging conversation and sparking a debate.
"If you don't get any reaction it's really difficult to build this information exchange."
The Lecturer of the Year is run every year, with awards going to the highest-rated lecturer or tutor in each department as well as to the top rated lecturer or tutor overall.
Student President Shannon Pennefather acknowledges the award as a positive tradition for both Unitec students and staff.
"Unitec students should be proud to study at an institute with such a high calibre of lecturers," says Shannon.
Congratulations to Graeme Saxby and all the other department winners for this year's award.
