New Creative Industries Complex opening soon

New Creative Industries Complex opening soon

Exciting things are happening up on the hill at NorthTec’s Raumanga Campus. The new multi-million dollar Creative Industries Complex is nearly complete and is due to be officially opened on 26 October.

The complex utilises refurbished buildings vacated as a result of the move of trades-related programmes to the Future Trades Campus in Dyer Street, along with some newly-constructed facilities.

CHART and Creative Northland congratulate NorthTec on the opening of this facility. “It will provide educational and training opportunities in a variety of arts professions in facilities that students can feel proud of. The new creative centre at NorthTec’s Whangarei Campus is recognition that this sector is growing to be an important part of the economic and community strength of Northland,” said CHART North CEO, Chris Carey. “Through this facility, NorthTec is showing a commitment to developing a thriving creative economy in the region.”

NorthTec’s Creative Industries Director, Khalid Bakhshov, is very excited by what the new complex will mean for students and hopes that the new facilities will help to establish NorthTec’s Raumanga Campus as a national centre for excellence in arts education.

“This is a continuation of the work that we have already done to provide new learning facilities for our arts programme at NorthTec’s Rāwene Campus,” said Mr Bakhshov, “Our Rāwene and Kerikeri Campuses have national and international profiles because of the excellence in arts education that is provided by out tutors there, and we believe that the new Creative Industries Complex here in Whangarei will only add to that profile.”
