ANU Honours Eddington And Mimura
The Australian National University will confer its highest honour, an Honorary Doctorate, on Sir Roderick Eddington AO and Mr Akio Mimura at a ceremony today.
Both men will be awarded a Doctor of Science, honoris causa, for service to the international community, to Japan and to the relationship between Australia and Japan.
The award recognises the significant contributions each has made in their professional careers. The citation reads:
“Sir Roderick’s longstanding, deep and abiding commitment to building Australia’s business and broader ties with Asia distinguish his career in business and public life.
“Mr Mimura’s energetic and outgoing personality has shaped his approach to business both in Japan, where he has held many influential leadership roles, and internationally, where he has played a prominent role in economic and business diplomacy, including with Australia.
“Sir Roderick is Chair of the Australia-Japan Business Cooperation Committee, the counterpart of the Japan-Australia Business Cooperation Committee, of which Mr Mimura is Chair.
“Sir Roderick and Mr Mimura have worked tirelessly with their colleagues to expand and broaden the two Committees’ focus to include key services industries that are vital to the future of both our economies and to embrace our trilateral relationships in Asia”.
Both recipients will be available for interview after the ceremony.
