Otago Polytechnic launches new trades programmes
Students can gain a pre-trade qualification in just three short months
In response to increasing community demand for skilled workers, Otago Polytechnic is delighted to launch three new pre-trade programmes: Masonry Trades, Painting and Decorating and Plasterboard Fixing and Stopping.
These 12-week programmes will run from 1 October-21 December, 2012. Painting and Decorating is being offered in partnership with the Dunedin Trade Training Centre.
“These exciting new offerings provide students with the skills and knowledge required to secure entry-level positions in these trade areas,” explains Director of Communications, Mike Waddell. “They also offer a solid grounding for those seeking apprenticeships or further trades-based study.”
There is steady demand for qualified workers in all three of these trades areas. There is ongoing need for skilled masons who can build structures from bricks and blocks for industrial, residential and landscaping purposes. Painting and decorating is a versatile trade offering year-round employment – as is quality plasterboard fixing and stopping, which is essential to successful interior design.
Otago Polytechnic is also offering $500 fee scholarships to eligible applicants.
Applications close on Friday 28 September. Anyone interested in applying for these programmes should contact Otago Polytechnic’s School of Architecture, Building and Engineering on 0800 762 786 or info@op.ac.nz
