Media release: NorthTec’s 2011 results released (6/9/2012)
Today’s release of the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) Performance Report for 2011 reveals that overall NorthTec has continued to maintain its position in its educational performance for the year.
The Tertiary Education Performance Report provides a summary of the performance of all 18 Institute of Technology and Polytechnics (ITPs) around New Zealand.
What was also highlighted in the report is that NorthTec has maintained its position in the Institute of Technology and Polytechnics (ITP) sector average in the Educational Performance Indicators (EPIs).
NorthTec Chief Executive, Paul Binney, said the 2011 EPIs continued to demonstrate that NorthTec is working hard to improve the outputs of its students. He said that the results were encouraging and again validates that the institution is delivering a very good level of service to its stakeholders in Northland.
Compared with 2010 EPI results, there has been an improvement in the succesful completion of courses by students from 77 per cent to 79 per cent.
Completion of qualifications by NorthTec students have also improved, from 56 per cent in 2010 to 64 per cent in 2011.
Students retained in study also increased from 52 per cent in 2010 to 53 per cent for 2011 in the EPIs.
Student progression to a higher level of study remained the same at 27 per cent for 2010 and 2011 respectively.
Mr Binney credited the EPI outcomes to NorthTec’s staff that had put in considerable effort to deliver for the institution a solid all-round performance. However, Mr Binney noted that more must
be done in order to achieve our strategic goal of being in the upper quartile for educational performance and for NorthTec to become a transformational institution for the region.
