Mary Cave-Palmer Appointed as Wintec Chair
Mary Cave-Palmer has been appointed as Wintec’s chair of council by the Tertiary Education Skills and Employment Minister Steven Joyce.
Ms Cave-Palmer, from Hamilton, has been the institute of technology’s acting chair for the past four months following Gordon Chesterman’s resignation from this role in April.
“I am delighted with the Minister’s appointment,” says Ms Cave-Palmer.
“I look forward to being part of the challenges and changes ahead for Wintec. It is a progressive organisation, with a governing Council that has a well-earned reputation as being forward thinking and diligent.”
“Having been in the acting chair role for the past few months the role of Chair is not entirely new to me. I have been a member of the Wintec council for more than ten years and chaired the Council’s finance and audit committee during that time.
“Wintec’s chief executive Mark Flowers and I have worked together over the years. I am keen to see the momentum continue under his leadership around many initiatives the organisation is currently involved with and planning to undertake.”
Wintec chief executive Mark Flowers welcomed the announcement.
“I have worked with Mary for the past ten years, most recently in her capacity as acting chair. I am looking forward to her contribution as we enter into the next phase of our campus modernisation programme, progress off-shore delivery initiatives, and work more closely with neighbouring institutes of technology and polytechnics.
“Mary is familiar with our organisation and this is a positive as it brings consistency and stability at the governance level.”
Yesterday Mr Joyce announced a number of new appointments to councils of universities and institutes of technology. View the release http://www.beehive.govt.nz/release/university-amp-polytechnic-council-members-appointed
