Brett Mcgregor Ignites Kids' Passion for Cooking with Let’s Cook Programme in Schools
Celebrity chef Brett McGregor and Parmco Appliances have joined forces to get kids passionate about cooking with a free nationwide cooking programme being rolled out in schools. Close to 200 schools signed up in the first week of registrations.
Schools from around the country have registered for the three-week Let’s Cook with Parmco programme, which also offers the chance for participating schools to win one of eight Parmco kitchen packages worth over $150,000.
Every school that registers before August 31 will receive recipes and cooking tips created just for Let’s Cook by McGregor. Each week new recipes will be sent to participating schools, with McGregor giving a video demonstration of how to cook the dishes via the Let’s Cook website.
McGregor, who was a teacher before winning NZ’s first Masterchef, says Let’s Cook with Parmco is an amazing opportunity to make children enthusiastic about cooking.
“I’m so excited about this programme - we’ve already had a huge response from schools around the country, which is just fantastic,” McGregor says. “Let’s Cook is not about which child cooks the best dish, it’s about encouraging kids, and the whole family, to get in the kitchen and give cooking a try. That is something I am extremely passionate about,” he says.
“The recipes I’ve created for this programme are designed to show kids how creative they can be in the kitchen, and just how easy it is to cook fantastic dishes from fresh ingredients.”
The event will be launched on September 6 at Parmco’s test kitchen in Mt Wellington, where McGregor will give a group of Auckland school students a live cooking lesson.
General Manager of Parmco Trevor Preston says Parmco is thrilled to be able to offer Kiwi kids and their families a chance have fun and be inspired in the kitchen.
“Parmco is a Kiwi kitchen appliance company that cares about Kiwi families, so of course we are very passionate about cooking,” Preston says. “We can’t think of anyone more suitable to help ignite a passion for cooking among kids than Brett, and we are very pleased to be working with him to make Let’s Cook happen,” he says.
“We also have some amazing kitchen prizes up for grabs to help schools continue to instill that passion for cooking in their students.”
Thanks to Gilpin Travel, three lucky schools across the country will also receive a surprise visit from McGregor during Let’s Cook, during which he will teach students how to cook some of his dishes in person.
Managing director of Gilpin Travel, Keith Sumner, says Gilpin is very happy to be on board with Let’s Cook, enabling McGregor to have one-on-one interaction with kids in the kitchen.
“At Gilpin Travel, we believe encouraging creativity and a passion for hands on activities such as cooking is part of really living life, which is what we’re all about as a travel company,” Sumner says. “And as a Kiwi company with strong family values, we’re always motivated to work with other Kiwi companies like Parmco, to help our kids.”
Other brands lending their support to the Let’s Cook campaign are Hilton, and Simon Gault’s new restaurant Fish. Those people who vote for a school will go into a draw to win two nights at the Hilton Auckland, dinner at Fish restaurant, plus a masterclass with the executive chef.
All schools that enter Let’s Cook with Parmco will be eligible to win a classroom full of state-of-the-art kitchen appliances – including free-standing cookers, canopies, fridges, microwaves and dishwashers, by having their friends and family vote for their school. Plus, students can win spot prizes for completing McGregor’s weekly cooking challenges.
Schools can win the kitchen appliances by having friends, family and members of the community vote for their school online at www.letscookwithparmco.co.nz from September 3 to 25.
Schools can register until August 31 at www.letscookwithparmco.co.nz to give students cooking lessons they’ll never forget – plus be in with a chance to win a brand new world-class kitchen for the school. The eight winning schools that will receive Parmco kitchen prize packs will be announced on September 28.
