Media release: Campus Chamber’s first event a success(9/8/2012)
The Campus Chamber recently hosted its first event, ‘How to Network’ which was a huge success.
Approximately 60 guests, including Campus Chamber members and local members of the New Zealand Chambers of Commerce
Northland, headed to the NorthTec Interactive Learning Centre to attend the seminar on networking, presented by Tony
Collins, Chief Executive Officer of the New Zealand Chambers of Commerce Northland, and Jennifer Ross and Jean Ottley of
Careers New Zealand.
“Networking is an essential skill and at the heart of any successful business interactions and therefore we saw it
fitting to be the topic at the first Campus Chamber event” says Kirsten James, Relationship Manager at NorthTec
Graduate Diploma in Business student and Campus Chamber member, Lauren McCreedy, attended the event and really enjoyed
it. “I like the initiative,” she said. “It’s great how the Campus Chamber integrates students with real-life business.”
The feedback from industry members was also very good, with everyone in attendance taking something away from the event.
The Campus Chamber is a cutting edge concept, which partners NorthTec and the New Zealand Chamber of Commerce Northland.
This formulation signifies a new bridge between Northland’s tertiary and business sectors, encouraging entrepreneurship,
and raising awareness in the business sector of the need to nurture new business talent.
“Although the Campus Chamber is an opportunity for any Northlander engaged in tertiary education, NorthTec are proud to
have established the initiative with the New Zealand Chambers of Commerce Northland, providing an opportunity for our
students, while studying, to start engaging with industry and positioning themselves for better opportunities when they
have completed their qualification,” says Kirsten James.
Any student studying in Northland can join the Campus Chamber, regardless of which tertiary institution they are
studying at. There are many benefits that members receive including; great networking opportunities, connecting to
industry for project work, internships and possible job placements, as well as free attendance at the training seminars,
and 100 personalised Campus Chamber member business cards.
The next event being hosted by the Campus Chamber is being held 11 September at the NorthTec Interactive Learning Centre
beginning at 5pm. The topic of discussion at this seminar will be “Planning for your Career” and will be presented by
Careers New Zealand.

NorthTec is the Tai Tokerau (Northland) region's largest provider of tertiary education, with campuses and learning
centres in Whangarei, Kerikeri, Rāwene, Kaikohe and Kaitaia. NorthTec also has over 60 community-based delivery points
