UCOL’s big show and tell
Everything from car bodies to human bodies, from fingernails to galvanized nails, will be on show at UCOL’s Open Day on Wednesday.
UCOL’s biggest show day of the year, the annual Information Open Day, gives visitors and prospective students the chance to check out the more than 100 programmes on offer and get hands on experience of the wide variety of study options.
The programmes will be represented with interactive displays and demonstrations at the event in the UCOL Atrium on Princess Street and surrounding facilities.
Visitors can check out Trades and Technology’s brand new Training Centre that also accommodates a state of the art 3D printer that makes solid forms from digital files, and the full size house that UCOL carpentry students are building.
Motorsport students will show off the racing car they have built and find the fastest tyre changer of the day in their pit crew competition.
Budding scientists can take on the challenge of putting the human body back together with the body jigsaw, experiment with dry ice and extract fat from chocolate.
Visitors to the nursing stand have the opportunity to dress wounds, take blood pressures and try CPR on one of the advanced teaching mannequins.
The more sports minded can have a go at Jujitsu with UCOL’s Mixed Martial Arts team on stage from 10.00am-11.00am.
There’s a chance for personal pampering in the beauty salon and a skin type check with the skin scanner.
The Certificate in Contemporary Music Performance students will provide entertainment on the central stage in the heart of the Atrium.
A prize of Beats by Dre Solo Headphones or a 16GB iPad 3 is up for grabs. Interaction with the programme displays is enough to gain entry.
Free buses will be running between Massey University’s Open Day and the UCOL bus stop on Queen Street at AS@U from 10:00am.
The Open Day is on Wednesday 1 August, from 9.00am-1.00pm at the UCOL campus, corner of Princess and King Streets.
