Youth Trade Delegation Enjoys Rotorua Visit

Waiariki Institute of Technology hosted members of the Sino-New Zealand Youth Exchange programme to the city recently.

The visitors were given an overview of New Zealand’s only bicultural institution while staff also interacted with the group.

Asia New Zealand Foundation representative Liyang Ma said they really enjoyed their time and were very interested in how Waiariki was incorporating the Maori culture into the education system.

In Rotorua across Queens Birthday weekend the group experienced attractions like Te Puia, Rotorua Museum, Hells Gate and the Agrodome and were accompanied by Waiariki’s iwi relationships coordinator Luke Rikiti.

The exchange programme was formally established in 2009 through a partnership between the Aisa New Zealand Foundation and the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries.

The object is to develop long-term relationships and establish links and promote communication among future leaders of the two countries. Exchanges reciprocate on a bi-annual basis.

While in New Zealand the group also attended briefings from Fonterra, New Zealand Trade and Enterprise, Auckland City Council, Ports of Tauranga, Priority One and Government officials.

The delegation flew back to China on Wednesday June 6.
