PPTA paid union meetings – regional dates

Paid union meetings (PUMs) kick off around the country next week as PPTA members tackle government attacks on frontline teaching staff and class sizes.

The attached schedule will let you know when meetings will be held in your region.

PPTA president Robin Duff said, as well as increasing class sizes, the government’s changes to the school staffing formula would mean many schools would be forced to drop subjects from their timetables.

“They will also impact on the capacity of schools to provide extra-curricular activities and pastoral care and support for students.

“If the minister wants to support student achievement, ripping $300 million out of schools’ resources is not the way to do it,” he said.

Next week’s PUMs will be one of the two legally authorised meetings that employees are entitled to each year under section 26 of the Employment Relations Act 2000.

Meetings will be held in committee but your local PPTA regional chair will be available to provide comment afterwards.
