All Blacks coach ‘honoured’ to speak at CPIT graduation
CPIT’s autumn graduation, on Friday 30 March at CBS Arena, will feature key note speaker Dr Nick Gill, who helped power the All Blacks to their winning World Cup performance.
“Essentially I believe there are no limits, only choices, and nothing replaces hard work and good people skills. The world is your oyster as a graduate, however nothing comes easy. Do not feel like you have to know what you want to do with the future… it will become clearer!” Dr Gill said.
“I am honoured to be invited. It seems like a long time ago since I graduated! But I still remember how it felt; exciting to be finished but nervous about the next step!”
Dr Gill, who has worked in professional sport since 2000 and as strengthening and conditioning coach with the All Blacks since 2008, lists the national rugby team’s 2011 World Cup win as his career highlight.
His speech will certainly inspire CPIT’s first graduates of the Sports Science and Exercise (Bachelor of Applied Science) programme.
“I think the most important piece of advice I can offer sports science graduates is that you should never stop learning, never stop asking questions of yourself and your philosophy, as you can always learn! Another important point is the ability to adapt. Our world is forever changing, each day, each week and each year. The ability to adapt and change with the dynamic landscape we live in is very important… all this being said it is very important to enjoy helping people achieve their goals!”
Life after the world cup win is anything but quiet with Dr Gill currently monitoring a group of players of interest to the All Black selectors.
CPIT will graduate over 300 students from Trades Innovation Institute, Humanities including Te Puna Wanaka and Outdoor Education, Nursing and Human Services, Applied Science and Allied Health and Engineering in the morning ceremony and over 400 students from Business, Computing, Food and Hospitality, Architecture, Creative Industries including Art and Design, NASDA and Broadcasting in the afternoon ceremony.
For the first time this year, graduates can celebrate their academic achievement with family and friends beyond Christchurch with both ceremonies being streamed live via CPIT’s website: www.cpit.ac.nz.
