UCOL Fashion students are celebrating success at this year’s Underground Youth Fashion Show, held in Whanganui at the weekend.
Three Bachelor of Fashion students and graduate Sara Bailey took a total of eight awards in the annual competition which is open to young designers throughout New Zealand.
2011 Bachelor of Fashion graduate Sara Bailey won the NZ Youth Streetwear category and also took first, second and third place in the High Fashion category, making her Supreme Winner of the competition.
Third year Bachelor of Fashion student Stephanie Foster was placed first in the Evening Trendz section and was also awarded a UCOL scholarship. Year One students Zoe Amos took second place in the Youth Streetwear category and first year student Maylene Greenaway took third place in Youth Streetwear and Evening category.
Graduate Diploma in Fashion graduate and past Underground Youth Fashion winner, Stefanie McKnight, also showed two collections, titled Ugly and Whole-Hole.
Head of the School of Fashion Amanda Rayner says both students and graduates made a fine showing at the event, against strong competition. “We’re proud of the achievements of our graduates and we are also proud of the success of our present students. They have bright futures and taking part in a competition like the Underground Youth Fashion Show is very valuable experience.”
The show was held on Friday and Saturday16 and 17 March at the Wanganui Memorial Hall.
