Unitec O Week Boosts
Student Culture And
Community
Today the Unitec
campuses swarmed with excited students ready to kick off
their academic year. The Unitec “Hub” was buzzing with
giveaways, interactive zones and a lunchtime welcome back
concert featuring “Sassy and the Pocketbook”.
Highlights over the Unitec two week Orientation programme are the Kids Day Out, Sports competitions, Lipton Ice Tea Sliptonslide, Inflatable Skinny soccer field, The Edge road runners, Mai FM street team, SDNZ hip hop dances, International Food Day , State Survivor competition, Les Mills demonstrations, Free BBQ’s, Outdoor film nights, Pizza Party, Eating competitions and the big event Sounds in the Sun.
“The most important part of Orientation is that it welcomes students to the Unitec community. O week is the best way to connect with new people and make friends! It’s more than just fun and games. It’s about creating a sense of belonging. Creating an environment of connection and growth. In saying that we also know how to have a hell of a good time! We aim to run positive social events that impact our student body and community” Says newly elected student president Shannon Pennefather.
The highlight of orientation is undoubtedly Unitec presents “Lipton Ice Tea Sounds in the Sun” on Saturday 3rd March 2012. The pack in has already began and tickets are flying out the door.
The festival last year raised funds for Christchurch and this year is proud to be partnering with the Ministry of Social Development, to promote a positive anti-violence message alongside the “It’s Not O.K. Campaign”.
“It’s hands down the best line up we have had in five years! Who can beat Shapeshifter, Katchafire, 1814, Kidz in Space, Bulletproof featuring Rugged Tekniques and Annabel Fay, DJ Sir-Vere, Unknown Peace along with the world winning Prestige Dance Crew!” Says the event manager Adam Basham.
Tickets are selling fast as General Admission
tickets are only $20 from dashtickets.co.nz.
It will be a
day of not only great kiwi music but patrons can also expect
interactive zones, food vendors, licensed areas, market
