Scots College seeks all-round young men with
‘x-factor’ for Year 11-13 senior school scholarships

In 2012 Scots College is delighted to be able to offer a number of scholarships to new and existing students for the newly formed Senior School (Year 11-13).

“As a result of the College’s transition to the internationally-recognised International Baccalaureate (IB) three school model; Prep (Yr 1-6), Middle (Yr 7-10) and Senior (Yr 11-13), in 2012 we now have capacity to cater for more students in our Senior School, while continuing as always to keep our class sizes small,” said Headmaster Graeme Yule.

“Scots is now an accredited IB World School, which makes us different from any other Boys School in Wellington. The education you receive at Scots is aligned with the top international schools worldwide, and most importantly IB is available here in our own back yard in Strathmore, Wellington,” said Mathew White, Co-ordinator of the IB Programme at Scots College.

“We have the luxury of using the New Zealand curriculum and IB to best meet the needs of our students in the Prep and Middle Schools, and in the Senior School students have the dual qualification pathway option of sitting either NCEA or the IB Diploma, a qualification recognised by universities worldwide. The IB Diploma is a great option for boys who need to be challenged, as it requires a more focused and independent approach to learning and encourages students to be active learners, skills that are essential for success at tertiary level and beyond,” commented White.

“To me the IB Diploma is the type of qualification I wish I had done at school. It ensures students receive a holistic education including two Modern Languages, Science, Mathematics and Humanities as well as Theory of Knowledge. To further develop their roles as global citizens, students are also involved in creativity, action and service activities. Students complete a mini thesis Extended Essay where they are encouraged to pursue their own interests and develop thinking and research skills,” said White.

“What sort of boys are we looking for when we offer these scholarships? It’s hard to pin down – sometimes it’s just that X Factor. We’re looking for the classic all-rounder with great potential. His strengths might lie in the classroom, but equally it could be the sports field, music, the creative arts, IT or he may be a young entrepreneur with a great eye for business. Whatever his passion, he will be a genuine self-starter, with a real energy for life that, given the right guidance and support, will see him leave Scots College as a confident young man ready for whatever life might throw at him. We are looking for an individual who wants to fulfil his potential,” said Yule.

EXTERNAL SCHOLARSHIPS
Years 11 – 13 General Excellence Scholarships
These scholarship(s) are open to students not currently enrolled at the College and provide a percentage of annual school fees. The level of scholarship support is awarded on a needs-based, case-by-case basis.

Year 12 International Baccalaureate Scholarships
These scholarship(s) are open to students not currently enrolled at the College who wish to undertake study in the International Baccalaureate Diploma program. The scholarship(s) provide a percentage of annual school fees and the level of scholarship support is awarded on a needs-based, case-by-case basis.

Year 9 - 13 Boarding Scholarships
These scholarship(s) are open to students not currently enrolled at the College who wish to attend Scots College as a Boarder. The scholarship(s) provide a percentage of annual school fees and the level of scholarship support is awarded on a needs-based, case-by-case basis.

INTERNAL (For current students only)

Year 12 International Baccalaureate Scholarship
This scholarship provides 33% of annual school fees and is open to current Year 11 Scots College students intending to study IB in 2012.

Year 12 or Year 13 Ariadne Danilow Language Scholarship
This scholarship provides 50% of annual school fees and is open to any current Year 11 or Year 12 Scots College student who will continue to study a language in 2012.

Year 12 or Year 13 Realising Potential - Student in Need Scholarship
This scholarship provides 50% of annual school fees and is open to any current Year 11 or Year 12 Scots College student in need of support and financial assistance.
